Rally by the Stars Drive

& Pool Party

On a very comfortable Sunday afternoon, approximately 25 cars including members of the Nashville British Car Club, the Music City Jaguar Club and the Tennessee Tubs Porsche 356 Club met at the Suntrust Bank branch in Maryland Farms Brentwood for the start of the 2nd annual "Rally by the Stars" drive and party.  Although not as long a drive as in year 1, this year's drive, coordinated by the Jag Club's Jim Smith, took drivers and their navigators past several important locations in Nashville's illustrious country music history.

The cars in the rally included several Jaguars, several Porsches, Mini Coopers, a Riley and even a TVR.  After a brief instruction by Rallymaster Jim Smith, the cars were flagged off at one minute intervals to do the drive.  There was only one casualty, that being Tom Smith's Jag XK150 Coupe's clutch (which had been acting up since last year's Mountain Mille Rally) finally giving up the ghost as it was driven by a friend of Tom's son with his other son as navigator.  A quick pick up by AAA and the car was returned to its stable to await a new clutch fitment.

At the conclusion of the Rally/Drive, everyone met up at Tom Smith's home, Tynelea, in Oak Hill for an impromptu Concours on the lawn and pool party.  Many other member's of the respective clubs arrived and at its height there were approximately 45 cars on the front lawn!  Needless to say this much classic iron attracted alot of attention in this otherwise quiet neighborhood with neighbors and passers-by stopping in to see the cars.  Members kept coming out from the pool party to see what new had arrived.  There was everything present from the early Riley, an early Singer, several Triumph's, several more Jags from old to new, a Rolls Royce, a new Bentley Arnage T, some Aston Martin's and numerous MGs and Austin Healey's.  We also saw several great Porsche 356's from Tennessee Tubs.

The party at Tynelea was alot of fun.  A margarita machine added to the festivities and Jane and Tom Smith provided catered food from Moe's Southwest Grill.  Lots of kids enjoyed swimming in the pool, playing croquet, bouncing on the trampoline and just having a good time.  The adults enjoyed tours of the home, carriage house and garage and socializing on the terrace and around the pool.  Admission to the party was food for Nashville's 2nd Harvest Food Bank and over 100 pounds of canned goods were collected for this very worthwile organization!
