NBCC June 9, 2007, Drive to Fall Creek Falls – At 256’the highest falls in eastern America, voted the best state park in the S.E. by Southern Living readers!
It may not be too late to join the drive. Call the Lodge to check on rooms and let Dave leonard know if you are going .......or need help with a room
We will begin the trip by meeting at the Kangaroo service station in Triune at 8:45am. We will leave promptly at 9:00, taking hwy 96 to Broad St in Murfreesboro. The Saturday morning traffic should be light. Turn right onto SE Broad St, 70S, and continue on to a left turn onto Mercury Blvd ( 70S ). The time then should be about 9:35. We continue on 70S to Woodbury ( by about 10:00 ), Centertown and to the S70E bypass around McMinnville to hwy 30, following the FCFalls signs to a right turn ( quickly, at the water tower ), onto 284 ( which crosses 111 ) on its way into the park. We’ll arrive at the park inn and restaurant around 11:20, having beaten some of the heat, plus any time for pit stops or breakdowns. We’ll stay in touch with FRS radios in my lead car and the rearmost car, plus cellphone use by anyone wishing to stop for any reason. My cell no. is 975-2947. I’m not sure where the 615 area ends or the Cingular towers disappear.
Since guest rooms are only guaranteed available by 4:30pm latest, we should plan to group in the restaurant for a leisurely and cooling buffet or menu lunch ( served from 11:00 – 2:30 ). Then we can each decide what to do and see, such as the overlooks, waterfalls, rocks throwing and other activities. An evening grouping for dinner ( served from 5:00 – 9:00 ) might fit well at 6:30. Then we can find an outdoor seating area to spend the evening swapping tales or reciting Somebody, etc. Bring your chairs, bug spray, smokes and imbibes.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant from 6:30 to 10:00. Each can schedule a staggering- in time. The remainder of the day is up to the whims of each…………and the weather. Be safe in your travels.
In the unwelcome event of substantial rains at the start, the leave time will be delayed.
Presently ( in order of reservations )going overnight are NBCC’ers Leonards, Longs, Woods, Greenes, and Emassieus.
