NBCC St. Mary’s Tour ‘07

07/14/2007 - 12:30pm
Etc/GMT-6
Here is our preliminary plan for the July tour.

We leave the Kangaroo Market at Hwy. 96 and Nolensville Road at 12:30 Saturday July 14th. We tour the back roads to a top secret (and allegedly legal) rum distillery for a behind the scenes tour. Then a short jaunt to a Mennonite bakery and cheese shop for some shopping. Then about 20 more minutes to our destination, St. Mary’s Academy in Sewanee, TN. St. Mary’s is a former girls boarding school founded by the nuns of the Episcopal Community in 1896 which is now a spiritual development center. It sits on the edge of the bluff over looking Cowan with an incredible view of the valley below.

We will be staying in converted dorm rooms which means we will sleep on twin beds, 6 people to a room, and share large (as in multiple showers) bathrooms. If you would like a private room, you will be in a different building than the rest of us. You will have 2 twin beds per room but no air conditioning. Our building is the only one with A/C. You will still share a large bathroom with everyone else on your floor and there is an $18 per person up charge. Men and women have separate bathrooms in both buildings. Dinner will be at 6 o’clock and socializing/games afterwards. Breakfast is at 8, then we can spend some time enjoying the grounds of St. Mary’s as there are some beautiful hiking trails. Check out is 11 and then we head to Cowan to tour the train museum.

From Cowan we venture to Falls Mills (circa 1873) which is an operating water powered grain mill and museum featuring a 32 foot overshot water wheel. Our overnight package includes the distillery tour, train museum, Falls Mills, Saturday’s buffet dinner, overnight accommodations, a full hot breakfast Sunday morning and a light lunch on the grounds at Fall Mills ALL for $70 per person! Feel free to have a look at St. Mary’s online at www.stmaryssewanee.org and www.fallsmills.com. A non-refundable $30 per person deposit is required before May 30th. Please mail a check to W.O. Greene 6048 Robin Hill Road Nashville, Tennessee 37205. St. Mary’s is a smoke free environment.

P.S

We are planning a club tour to the Cowan and Sewanee area on July 14th. We will stay at St. Mary’s retreat area on Sewanee Mountain. I have sent a personal note to all members about this event and we now have twelve people signed up. The event is not listed in the web site for some reason. If you want to go, we need to send a deposit to S. Mary’s by the first of June. It will be thirty dollars per person and the total cost will be $70.00 per person.. I hope we can get a few more people to sign up.

If you need any more information on this outing, please call me or Catherine at 615-352-4243.
