Our July 2008 Drive to Arrington Vineyards

Three of the NBCC faithful met at the Triune Kangaroo station at 10:15am - Carl & Mary Feickert's TR6, W.O. & Catherine Greene's TR3 and Dave & Imo Leonard's drive-leading BJ8 Healey.

The tour began with a 6 mile run down 31A to Allisona and turned onto Arno-Allisona for a backroads drive. We took Pulltight Hill Road to the overlook area and, after looking at that beautiful valley below, coasted down the winding road and turned onto Mt. Zion Road to view the deserted and time-worn, one-room Mt. Zion Community Church.

Back on Pull Tight we motored to Cross Keys, taking Cross Keys Road to west Flat Creek Road. On Flat Creek we pulled into Moses Steele Cemetary, a Revolutionary War cemetery where the U.S. and Scottish flags were flying. After a very interesting look at the markers, a concrete vault and a stacked stone mini-mausoleum (?), we continued to Comstock Road onto Cross Keys Road to Bethesda where we took Bethesda-Arno Road to Arno-Allisona Road to Arno.

From there we took Owen Hill Road to Pinkston Road to Arno-College Grove Road To College Grove. We then took 31A north to Cox Road and then to Patton Road and our destination, Arrington Vineyards.

We were greeted at AV by the owner himself, Kix Brooks, who stated "That was a pretty sight seeing those cars come up the driveway." Kix is himself a car buff owning a number of U.S. collectibles and two Ferraris.

He's also a very personable, down-to-earth guy - and he builds great wines! That's not to forget his and Ronnie Dunn's highly acclaimed and very listenable music. We were invited in for a wine tasting of any four of the broad selections of really good wines. Enjoyable!

Then we spread lunch on the porch bistro tables and enjoyed an AV Syrah, Kix's favorite. Good lunch, good conversation, and good company.

The day was hot but we had fun and a very pleasant drive through some of middle Tennessee's most beautiful countryside.
