September 2010 Newsletter

Greetings from Mike Long, NBCC President

Summer has been a brutal experience for us here in Tennessee but we’ve soldiered on through floods and tropical heat to enjoy some great drives and monthly dinners. I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy some of those events, or to encounter club-mates at the local cruise-ins and get-togethers that we feature on our website and through the Yahoo group postings.

It seems a perfect time for another NBCC newsletter since our car show is just around the calendar’s corner on Oct 9. The club has gotten pretty good at putting together our annual shows, but the change to Centennial Park in Nashville brings some unique challenges and there will be information all participants need to understand.

Additionally, there are always updates that concern members and or club activities and I want you all to be informed and able to communicate with me and/or other board members…..so, lets get started!

 Car Show

The show will start, as always, with a small reception on Friday , Oct 8, at the Baymont Inn “host hotel” just off Whitebridge Road. We will have the chance to meet some of our out-of-town participants, pick up pre-registration packets, and enjoy some friends, food, and beverages together. Ann Luther ( annluth03@comcast.net  ) will be coordinating our evening repast and we’re asking members to come to the event with some finger-food to share…..please contact her if you can help us! The reception will be on the 3rd floor of the Hotel (unfortunately not as auto-friendly as Carl George’s wonderful garage) so we are geographically close to our visiting car nuts!

On SHOW DAY …..Oct. 9, We will be setting up in Centennial park from about 7:00-on. Because Vanderbilt Univ is having a football game and Parents’ Weekend during our show, the only open access to Cenntenial Park will be the entrance off of Charlotte Pike where we plan to have an NBCC banner and volunteer traffic directors to help you in. Other volunteers will help route you through the park to the show site and registration table. If you can come a bit early to help with set-up tasks please let me, Mike Long,  know at myriley4@bellsouth.net so I can organize the morning before it turns into the afternoon!

For the first time, the NBCC has actively solicited sponsorships from companies  interested in our hobby and our patronage. These folks will be on-site along with the LBCar Co and a few other vendors for you to chat with. This effort will hopefully widen our club’s awareness, support these local businesses, and add a bit of funding for the show’s charitable contribution to Second Harvest Food Bank.

If you are attending and expect to bring a shade tent…..please be mindful that the park forbids “staking” due to potential damage to nderground cables. A $3000 fine will be levied for each staking incident…..so let’s not TEST the park’s resolve!

Keep in mind that PREREGISTRATION ends on Sept 12!!!! A preregistration is the ONLY way to be guaranteed one of the show’s embroidered golf shirts…..and a chance at an exclusive door prize….all at a discounted entry fee! Why would you wait!?!?!?!

2010 Club Activities

If you’ve been attending them, you know that we’ve eaten and toured to some great places this year. You can review some of the activities on the website, but I’d like to remind all members that the essence of our organization is the variety of activities, cars, and friends that can be enjoyed …..if you participate. So please try to join us….even in a modern car if necessary…for some of the “little” outings that can be so much “big” fun!

March…..JD & Cindi’s Whitehouse soggy “clue-collecting”drive for lunch and wine

April……Mike & Carol’s twisty bits of driving to the Mt Pleasant Grille

May ……Paul & Wanda’s jaunt to Peagram for Uncle Bud’s Catfish

June…….Curt and Debby’s tour to Mimi’s Café in Murfreesboro

July…….Phil & Ramona’s combo winery and Bellbuckle extravaganza

DON”T MISS.Sept 26th when JD is going to re-run his March drive ,,,in better weather?

 Club Affairs

The club board has had a few meetigs to set the club’s course and handle business as needed. Of specific note:

1.  Mickey Richaud resigned from the 2010 Board and he has been replaced by Matt Carden who was the “runner-up” at the January NBCC annual meeting. Matt has been a great asset and you might let him know that you appreciate his stepping up for the club.

2.  Board member Barb Nist was out-of-state for much of the year, but is now back in fine form with her Triumph reinvigorated as well….so we welcome her back.

3.  Finances:

    1.  The treasury has recovered somewhat from it’s January level based upon your payment of 2010 dues….THANK YOU!!  The board is trying to take a conservative financial approach by reducing catering and site expenses ….so we’re returning a bit to some “member catered” events …..with your generous help!
    2. We are continuing to seek recovery of some past debit card expenditures needed to rebalance our 2010 starting treasury records
    3. If you have not paid your 2020 dues yet…..please send them to WO Greene who can be contacted at vetpark@comcast.net.

4.  The Board continues to review the need for rewriting of our charter, procedures, and by laws.  Any proposed changes will be provided to members for review prior to any scheduled discussions or votes take place.

5.  We’re working on a roster and have confirmed a new member welcome letter that will be activated with this newsletter!

 Other bits!

You may have noticed that our planned June event at the Nashville Fairgrounds did not happen. Our opportunity to be that venue’s last car event was scuttled when the mayor gave our date up for a real race….with a possible future racing calendar. So….we may have lost a bit….but auto enthusiasm probably gained!

The NBCC has added a few links and classified adds on the website. The site gets lots of feedback from folks who find us and I thank Andy Adams and Dylan Wood for keeping us running with innovations like the PayPal show registration system…Kudos.

I sincerely hope that we are doing what the members want done….and I equally hope you will let me know if we are not. As president, my primary goal is to keep the club vital and encourage more member participation at events, in volunteering their  help, and in spreading the word so the club can grow.

Please let us know what you think……and give us the help you can….so the NBCC prospers while giving value to its members and support to the area’s charities.
